The charm of turnips

Turnips are one of the vegetables that are deeply rooted in Japanese food culture. Its history is long and has been cultivated by Japanese farmers for a long time. However, the appeal of turnips is not just their history. With the rise of modern health consciousness, it has been gaining attention again.

Nutritional value of turnips

Turnips are rich in minerals such as vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C, which is particularly effective in improving coldness and boosting immunity, contains approximately 20 mg per 100g of turnip. It is also rich in dietary fiber, making it a great option for relieving constipation and dieting.

Various cooking methods

Turnips can be made into raw salads, stewed, soups, or pickles. The leaves are also highly nutritious and can be enjoyed as stir-fried or soy sauce.

Regional culture

All over Japan have their own unique cuisine and traditions using turnips. For example, you can feel the local flavor and history, such as "Salted Turnip" in Nagano Prefecture and "Kaburasushi" in Fukuoka Prefecture.

How to choose a turnip

Choose fresh turnips that have a smooth surface and feel firm weight. Also, if you have leaves, make sure the leaves are bright green.
